The core gameplay is just you in a hallway with obstacles, and that hallway is dressed up to look like tunnels, alleyways, sections of buildings, streets with everything but the one way you need to go blocked off. Sometimes (in this current climate) people praise games for political reasons. For example some Wii-U games were overly praised because everyone knew the console was tanking. People will sometimes overly praise games for reasons. Video game critics tend to favor short and casual games that they can enjoy and review easier/faster. It's a vast open world game, with great roleplaying, good combat, and excellent narrative, lots of replayability. Not to mention Last of Us 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077 is just around the corner.Īll things considered and people's tastes being what they are, beating Witcher 3 is unrealistic. I am just trying to say is that it seems premature to jump the gun and say this is a generation defining game, especially when there are equally impressive or better games in the market.
And Witcher 3 seems like a distant past even though imo that game is still a benchmark of modern gaming, especially when that is not a big studio production. It feels like even great PS4 titles like Horizon and Uncharted 4 with everything they got right didnt get as much praise as this. However, it feels like they conveniently forgot all the great games that came before. I am not in total disagreement with these statements, I am a fan of the franchise and I have played the original trilogy multiple times.
